First make sure there is power to the refrigerator by making sure the light comes on when you open the refrigerator door.   Also make sure no one has turned off the control accidentally while cleaning the inside of the refrigerator.   Check to make sure the doors are closing and sealing properly with no large gaps between the door gaskets and the refrigerator frame.   Call 515 867 6787.   After a few questions, the problem area can be revealed to someone who understands how appliances are supposed to operate.

Make sure the is power to the washer by plugging something such as a lamp, or cell phone charger into the outlet where the washer gets is power.   If it's leaking water on the floor, check behind the washer to see if the water hoses are screwed on tight.   If they are leaking a little, sometimes you can tighten them up with a pair of pliars to stop the leaking.

In unusual circumstances, sometimes the house drain can become a problem and water can back up in the drain pipe as the washer goes through the drain cycle and run out and onto the floor.   In that case you will need a plumber.

you can get much insight by talking to a professional about your washer operation.

Many times, customers overlook one of the most important factors for drying issues.   The dryer vent is probably the main cause for approximately 80% of all dryer problems.   A vent problem can make the dryer overheat and cause parts to fail.  So checking the dryer vent first is a good idea.   The dryer vent should not have severe kinks, or too many 90 degree elbows, or be too long.   You should also check the outside exhaust vent hood to make sure it is opening and closing properly.   If you have a large capacity dryer, you need to make sure you have a large capacity exhaust vent hood as well as clear venting material.

First, check your breaker to make sure there is power to the unit.  If you have a leaky dishwasher try to understand where it's leaking by just looking at it.  If the water is coming from underneath, you will probably need to call for a service call.   But if it's leaking all the time, whether its running or not, you might want to turn off the water supply to the dishwasher.  Most of the time the water shut off is under the sink.   If if won't shut off because the water valve doesn't  turn, you can turn off the the house water supply.  Dishwasher detergent is low sudsing detergent with very low amount of suds.   If you see a lot of suds, it's possible that the wrong kind of soap has found its way into the dishwasher water.   All dishwashers have a gap at the bottom of the tub for air flow that allows the dishes to dry during the dry cycle.  This same gap will also allow soap suds and water to run out of the dishwasher.

Garbage Disposals

        Water heaters

If your range is electric, make sure the circuit breaker to the range is actually turned on.  Sometimes a circuit breaker can look like it has not tripped but could be off.   If you reset the breaker by turning it off and back on a couple of times, it might allow your range to start working again.   If you own a gas range, make sure there is power to it and the gas supply has not been turned off by someone for some reason.

Many people don't realize that there is a reset button for most garbage disposals and it can be as easy as resetting it.       First, check to make sure the reset button was not tripped.   It is normally found on the bottom or the side of the garbage disposal.   Sometimes something will fall into the disposal such as a piece of cloth or another small object that can cause the cutter blade wheel to lock up.  Never put hands into a disposal that is plugged into power!

Sometimes its just a matter of re-lighting the pilot light on gas wather heaters.   If you own an electric water heater, you need to check to make sure your breaker is on, or fuses are ok.  Sometimes it could be a little more technical.   But a leaky water heater can be more of a headache, depending on where the water is leaking from.

Ranges / Ovens

Just a little about my background:
I spent1977-2004 working for GE Applliance Service as an appliance service technician in
Des Moines, Iowa.  I semi retired in 2004 at age 54 and began my own service business.  In 2012 I moved to Omaha.  Feel free to call, text or email questions about your appliance  problem.   I like to help people with deciding whether to repair or replace an appliance.  I can tell a lot just by listening and asking a few questions about your appliance issue.
